New Volunteer!

I'm happy to announce that I have acquired a volunteer! Laura Stratton is a stalwart advocate for education and is looking for volunteer opportunities around the community. She supports the open, self-guided style of the organization and hopes to offer something good to the world. You will see her off and on working with the kids and (fingers crossed!) will get to meet her at Saturday's meeting! Three cheers for Laura!
I'm not certain what other volunteer opportunities will be available, but if any parents are interested in volunteering, please email me (see the Contact Me tab for contact details) with your skills and what you wish to offer. I may have to turn away volunteers, but I'm happy to keep a list for when opportunities arise. I will also add a tab for volunteer opportunities, which may come in the form of projects, old yard sale items, or other miscellaneous services.
Thanks again!

Getting Started

I will be hosting an informational parent meeting on Saturday, June 6th, time TBA. It will be held in my home, the address of which I will not be posting here on the internet. Please email me if you plan on attending, and the address will be provided.
This meeting is primarily to answer your questions, ease your concerns and give a better idea of what this organization entails for you and your student. Sign-up sheets, calendars, and informational pamphlets will be provided. Email me with quesrions and I will add them to the meeting agenda!
Please come, and bring your students! I'm excited to see you there!

Let Us Begin!

Hello Parents, Teachers, and all! My name is Miss Jenica. This blog is a tool to connect with all of you. Here I will tell stories, give updates, post schedules, and let you in on some of the awesome things your kids have come up with.
As I learn how to set this up, I will hopefully be able to add a calendar, a contact page, a suggestions page, a donations page, and many others. I'm excited to start!
Below is the letter you each received this past week. This invitation is open to any parents who are interested, and will stay open until I have reached my limit for the amount of kids I can take. (Details available in the letter.)
The Facebook page is in progress.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I am starting a summer school/ playgroup this summer for any children who wish to join in. Your child’s being invited to this group does not mean he/she is in need of special attention or schooling, it only means I care for your child, and I want to see them and help them learn throughout the summer!

This group will not be a structured school environment, but it won’t be the average daycare environment, either. Each child will have his/her own choice of what to learn, and will be personally guided and encouraged along that path. I will not test the children, or pin levels to them. I will not require homework, nor will I require study of any subject. This group is designed to be a fun, motivating, and exciting way to keep their brains moving over the summer, and hopefully cultivate and build on their skills and interests.

I aim to start with just two days a week, two hours at a time. Any further time would be dependent on the kids and on what they want and are up for. I am open to suggestions and input on days and times, though it will greatly depend on my work schedule.

I want this to be comfortable and convenient for you as parents, so I have elected to make this group free of charge. However, I will need money to run it, and so donations are welcome. If donations fail to cover the cost, I will have to ask for a fee, but all of the proceeds will go towards the kids and their projects.

This offer is unaffiliated with Promontory School. It is solely from me. I have received permission to send these letters home from school with your kids, but that is the most affiliation this organization can have with the school according to the law.

It will be held in my home. I understand that this may cause difficulty for many of you who live farther away, but I will do everything I can to help set up carpooling, or even pick up some kids myself if that is helpful and comfortable for you.

I have twelve available spots for kids ages K-4. I will email you with further details, schedules, and information as it becomes available, and will also post information on my blog and Facebook page. Feel free to call, email, or text me with questions and concerns!

    Thank you!
